A project audit can be performed to analyze the project results. The audit should not be held concurrently with a lessons learned review meeting.
Lessons learned should be collected throughout the project lifecycle. If this happens only at the end, many important lessons learned will be forgotten or missed.
A meeting to discuss lessons learned should not turn into a flood of accusations and reproaches. Create a positive atmosphere and focus on what knowledge has been acquired and how this information can be used in the future.
Collecting, analyzing and integrating the lessons learned into the overall knowledge system is one of the important ways in which a company can become a “learning company” and improve its products, services and processes over time.
