Sirit And Intel To Collaborate On RFID Reader Technology

They'll work to accelerate the deployment of standards-based building blocks for RFID readers.

Sirit Technologies and Intel on Monday disclosed collaboration plans for radio-frequency identification reader technology. With a foothold in the RFID reader market, Sirit, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sirit Inc., will work with Intel to accelerate the deployment of standards-based building blocks for RFID readers aimed at accelerating development and adoption by end users and OEMs.

The agreement includes certain technology licensing and commercial sales components. Specific terms of the agreement were not released. "RFID readers are an important, emerging enterprise platform that Incorporates computing, radio, and networking capabilities," Angela Biever, general manager of Intel Capital's New Business Initiatives, said in a prepared statement.

Biever said Sirit and Intel are working toward developing a standards platform architecture for intelligent readers that will serve supply chain management and other emerging RFID applications.
